Deborah Cottrill Ferguson, 69, of Morgantown, was received into her Heavenly home Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Deborah was born March 24, 1955, in Morgantown, a daughter of Willis “Bill” and Kathryn Snyder Cottrill.
Deb grew up in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1973.
She was married to her best friend and husband of 49 years, Tom Ferguson.
She is survived by Tom; their two sons, Nathaniel Ferguson, wife Laura and their daughters, Reagan, Reese and Rowan of Springwater, N.Y., Robert Ferguson, wife Brittney and their daughters, Corrine and Ava of Howard, Ohio; her mother, Kathryn Cottrill of Morgantown; her sister, Rebecca Cottrill of Morgantown; and several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and great- nephews.
Deborah was preceded in death by her father, Willis Cottrill; her brother, William Cottrill; and grandparents, Dayton and Goldie Snyder.
Deborah was a dedicated Christian and friend. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she served as children’s director, taught several different Sunday school classes over the years, taught children’s Bible quizzing, and also worked with her husband, Tom in the teen
department.
When their sons were growing up, she loved to attend their sporting events, their band parades, and their band concerts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, which gave her great joy. Together, they enjoyed baking, playing games, celebrating the holidays, and vacationing in Myrtle Beach.
Deborah began working for the Monongalia County Board of Education in 1988. She was employed with the County for 30 years. She touched the lives of students as they passed through the doors of the school or came to the office at Dorsey Elementary, Goff Early Childhood Center, Central Elementary, Riverside Elementary, and Skyview Elementary. The students had a difficult time pronouncing Ferguson, so they quickly gave her the name “Miss Debbie” or “Miss Deb.” She retired from Skyview in June of 2017.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lauren Veltri, Beth Morrison, and all the wonderful staff at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. The family would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to WV Caring Hospice. The family will be forever grateful for the medical treatment, compassion, and care.
All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life service for Deb at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 10, in the Morgantown Pierpont Church of the Nazarene.
