BEALLSVILLE, Oh. – The Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees earned a solid bounce-back victory over Beallsville, Oh. 49-6 on Friday night.
Five different Cee-Bees (5-4) accounted for touchdowns for head coach Aaron LaPoe and his club, which he says was indeed an all-around win.
“We’ve been wanting to try and spread the ball around a bit more recently,” LaPoe said. “Tonight was a great effort from all sides of the ball. I’m proud of the effort to dust ourselves of after last week and get a big win.”
Clay Battelle quarterback Corey Coen completed 9 of 16 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scoring passes went to wideout Braden Ponceroff, who returned after missing multiple games to catch five passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Landon Savage added four catches for 33 yards and a score, and LaPoe says he gave Beallsville fits all evening in the open field.
On the ground, Caleb Snodgrass carried the ball 18 times for 155 yards and a touchdown, while senior Maverick Gum had six carries for 30 yards and a score of his own. Coen also added a scramble for 30 yards, where he found the endzone.
Gum also made a significant play on defense just before halftime with a 90-yard pick-six interception. LaPoe says Beallsville had driven the ball inside the C-B 10-yard line before the interception return by the senior linebacker.
“I think the game’s biggest story is the fact that so many kids impacted the game,” LaPoe said. “And not only impacted the game by touching the ball more but scoring when they got the chance. That will be huge for us going into the bye week before another massive game.”
The Cee-Bees will enjoy a week off before traveling to visit Magnolia to conclude the regular season.
