The early voting periods ahead of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections set records in Monongalia County as 20,735 and 20,907 votes were cast in those 10-day periods, respectively.
After one day of early voting ahead of the 2024 general election, the county appears to be on pace to push that number higher still.
Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney said 3,157 county residents cast ballots on Wednesday, the first day of early voting in West Virginia.
For context, that’s more than half the number of votes cast (6,244) during the entire early voting period leading up to the primary election this past May.
Early voting ahead of the Nov. 5 general election runs through Nov. 2, Sunday excluded.
Monongalia County residents have four early voting locations to choose from. Early voting is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
