Anthony P. “Tony” Barill, 90, a lifelong resident of Morgantown, passed away at Mon Health Medical Center on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
Tony was born in Morgantown on Nov. 20, 1933, son of the late Joseph Barill and Helen (Gentile) Barill.
He was a 1952 graduate of St. Francis High School. After graduation, he was employed by Sterling Faucet. After leaving Sterling, Tony became active in local and state politics. He was a Monongalia County probation officer working with youth. He served as a Monongalia County Magistrate from 1980-1997. In 1997, he was elected sheriff of Monongalia County. From 2010 to 2014, he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 51.
Tony was very active in the Big Brother Program and the Junior Champs basketball program in Monongalia County.
Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (Brown); his son, Bradley; and his brother, Richard.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sherri (Tim) Pisegna and Michiele (Bob) Maxwell. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Raschelle, Scott and Robert Farley and Bianca (Paul) Coffy; two great-grandchildren, Kiara Gallo and Marco Coffy; sister, Barbara of New Jersey and his brother, Ronnie of
Morgantown.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. John University Parish, 1481 University Ave., Morgantown, WV 26505.
Friends and family will be received at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3346 University Ave., Morgantown, on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father Brian J. Crenwelge as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
