John Galis

John K. Galis, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown on September 18, 2024.

Born on Oct. 13, 1946, in Fairview, John’s warm presence and quick wit left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him.

After graduating from Morgantown High School in 1964, he went on to further his education at Florida State University. There, he not only excelled academically, earning a bachelor’s degree in management and an M.B.A. cum laude, but also formed lifelong friendships and associations that he would cherish throughout his life.

Professionally, John was deeply involved in the family business, contributing significantly to ventures in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

While John’s professional life was a testament to his intelligence and work ethic, those who knew him best will remember him for his sense of humor. He had a unique ability to find humor in everyday situations and could always be counted on to lift the spirits of those around him.

John’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Anita Galis, and his stepson, Kevin W. Groden, both of Morgantown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander J. Galis and Eloise Luton Galis, as well as his brothers, Paul L. Galis and James A. Galis.

John’s memory will be cherished by his surviving relatives, including several nieces, nephews and cousins. His passing leaves a void in the family that will be felt for years to come.

At John’s request, a private service will be held at a later date.

Smith Funeral and Cremation Care and SFCC Crematory of Westover/Morgantown is providing compassionate professional services to the family.
