MORGANTOWN — After returning to the gridiron in 2024 after pausing the high school football program at Trinity Christian School last season, TCS athletic director and head football coach Jason White announced the halting of the current season on Friday.
The Warriors were forced to forfeit Friday’s game against Clay-Battelle, as well as last week’s game against Weirton Madonna due to too many injuries having an impact on available players.
White admits that while the decision wasn’t easy, it was the right call to make.
“This is something we’ve been thinking about for a few weeks now, but when it comes down to it, we need to think about the kids’ safety. We had some injuries our first few weeks and we are only one or two more away from having to forfeit the season and I wasn’t going to wait for that to happen to force our hand.”
The Warriors also had to forfeit the season-opener due to a medical stoppage when a TCS player suffered heat exhaustion.
Trinity did complete its second game against Berkeley Springs, a 38-0 defeat, before forfeiting against Madonna and Clay-Battelle.
White was grateful for his players who gave the time and effort to help field a Trinity Christian Football team.
“It means so much to me; the kids mean everything,” he said. “That’s why I do this. Getting the opportunity to disciple and mentor them is the best part. And as disappointing as this situation is, I am so proud of how our team has responded to it compared to last season when we had the same thing happen before the season had started. It’s all about seeing their growth as individuals. As hard as the situation is, I would do it 100 times over because building the relationships and seeing the kids grow is the main goal.”
