Terrence Wyer Sr.

Terrence Gregory “Terry” Wyer Sr., 75, of Grafton, passed away at home on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on March 26, 1949, the son of James Renford Wyer and Sheila (Sarver) Wyer.

He graduated in 1967 from Morgantown High School. Terry joined the Army in 1968 and served in Tay Ninh, Vietnam with the 588th Engineer Battalion. After his service, he worked at Mylan Pharmaceutical and also doing road construction, then labor for Joe Moser in Morgantown. He later went into the coal mines for Pattie Coal Co. and then as a roof bolter for Martinka Mines. After leaving there, he drove a semi-truck for Dixie Mid-West from Alabama. He later returned to Robinson Run Coal Mines in West Virginia and worked there until he retired in 2012. Following his retirement, he drove an 18-wheeler for W.S. Thomas.

Terry played baseball in his youth and enjoyed swimming, sitting on the deck, spending time with family and friends and attending family reunions. He was a funny, kind person, well-loved by everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Renford Jr. Wyer, Jackie Richard Wyer, James Franklin Wyer and Rodney Brian Wyer; sisters, Delores Elaine Reynolds and husband, Carl, Patricia Ann Spoonamore and husband, James, Sheryl Belinda Helmick and husband, Obed and Victoria Ann Musick.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia A. “Patty” (Bennett) Wyer; his son, Terrence Gregory “Greg” Wyer Jr.; sisters, Cynthia Laya (Andy), of Shinnston, and Joyce Snyder (Fran), of Twinsburg, Ohio; as well as his sister-in-law, Vivian Wyer, of Ohio.

Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, 950 George Washington Hwy, Grafton, WV, from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at noon on Friday, Sept. 20, with Pastor James Johnson presiding. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
