Jason Robert Friggens, 49, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2024.
He was born in Morgantown on May 12, 1975, a son of Gary R. and Jane (McClung) Friggens.
Jason held a Bachelor of Science degree in natural science from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Mount Vernon, Ohio. He impressed others with a kind-hearted gentleness, love of nature and wanderlust for adventure. His passion for travel and ecology led him to university and related projects in Costa Rica, Hawaii, Alaska and beyond, including employment as a river guide on the Rio Grande River and tour leader at Denali National Park and Preserve. As an avid backpacker, he hiked two-thirds of the Appalachian Trail and canoed the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. He will also be remembered for his lifelong love of music and talent on the guitar and harmonica.
Jason was preceded in death by his mother in 2015.
He was survived by his father, Gary, who passed away on July 26, 2024. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Brian Friggens, of Morgantown; three uncles and spouses, James D. McClung (Shonet), of Morgantown, Thomas M. McClung (Michelle), of Confluence, Pa., and Thomas Friggens (Mary), of Marquette, Mich.; and two nieces.
The family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank the first responders and members of the emergency room medical staff of Ruby Memorial Hospital for their rapid and professional care.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home.
