On Thursday, Morgantown police detectives arrested Dustin Vernon Gomes, 38, of Morgantown, for two separate breaking-and-entering incidents in the past few weeks.
The first incident occurred just before 8 p.m. Aug. 31 when Gomes was allegedly observed on surveillance video entering an annex building at Suncrest Middle School located on Baldwin Street.
According to criminal complaints, a suspect identified as Gomes was viewed entering the south side of the building through a window and walking throughout the building. He is seen taking several backpacks, an umbrella and a hooded jacket with “Monongalia County Schools” on the front.
On Sept. 10, MPD was notified of several items stolen on Sept. 9 from an administrative building at Morgantown Energy Associates (MEA) Power Plant located on Beechurst Avenue, including a 2021 Jeep Rubicon that was parked on site.
The suspect was again caught on surveillance footage and later identified as Gomes.
According to complaints, Gomes drove the stolen Jeep off the property. The vehicle was later recovered behind Subaru of Morgantown on Mileground Road.
MPD detectives reviewed additional footage from the Subaru dealership showing Gomes parking the Jeep and going through the stolen items.
Gomes is facing one count breaking and entering for the Aug. 31 incident and one count of breaking and entering and one count of grand larceny for the Sept. 9 incident.
He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court and total bond was set at $15,000.
