Franklin “Frank” G. Allgauer, 89, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024.
Born on Sept. 15, 1934, in Granville, to Edward “Eddie” Allgauer, a coal miner, and Evelyn Gladys Smyth, a store owner, Frank lived a life filled with service and dedication.
Growing up in Morgantown, Frank enjoyed Mountaineer football by selling hotdogs during the games. He was a proud graduate of Morgantown High School’s Class of 1952. During his time there, he was an active member of the marching band, playing the trumpet with enthusiasm and with passion. After high school, Frank served his country honorably as a U.S. Marine, stationed at Cherry Point, N.C.
In 1956, Frank married Marjorie Marie Hackney in their hometown of Morgantown. Together, they settled in Alexandria, Va., where Frank embarked on a long and successful career with American Airlines. Over his 35 years with the airline, he rose through the ranks to become Senior Service Manager at Reagan National Airport, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his dedication, hard work and exceptional leadership.
Frank enjoyed his family and his two children, Franklin G. Allgauer II and Lisa Reayna Swygert, and was a proud grandfather to his only grandson, Sterling Swygert. He also cherished his son-in-law, Donnie Swygert and his daughter-in-law, Michelle D. Allgauer. Frank’s legacy of hard work and service will be cherished by all who know him.
Frank is survived by his two children, Franklin G. Allgauer II (Michelle) and Lisa Reayna Swygert (Donnie); grandson, Sterling Swygert (Rachel) and his extended family.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Eddie and Evelyn Allgauer; two loving sisters, Shirley Ann Powley (Kenneth) and Mary Alkire (Holly); and his wife, Marjorie Marie.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
