September Arts Walk is sure to entertain

Main Street Morgantown’s Arts Walk program has expanded and September’s 50+ artists and performers shouldn’t be missed.

Expanded Arts Walk entertainment offerings will run through November.

The September Arts Walk is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 14  in Downtown Morgantown.

Featured entertainment includes   music by Ryan Cain & The Ables, The Hillbilly Biscuits and The Mud Larks.

Additionally, the public can meet many artisans and makers, see handmade goods and creative arts demonstrations and enjoy a variety of offerings from food trucks.

The theme of September’s Arts Walk is WILD & WONDERFUL: Celebrating the arts and culture of our Appalachian home.

Ryan Cain & The Ables and The Hillbilly Biscuits will perform in Courthouse Square, blending traditional country music, bluegrass, early soul, rock, doo-wop and honky tonk. Ryan Cain’s award winning Rockabilly music has been featured on commercials and Netflix series, and he has collaborated with members of Reverend Horton Heat.

The Mud Larks will be at the Met Theatre from noon-2 p.m., offering a combination of traditional Celtic tunes, original Hurdy Gurdy and Nyckelharpa compositions and howling arrangements.

Visitors of Arts Walk will   not want to miss performances from Empty Pockets at the Warner Theatre, who have been producing live, energetic, daring, avant-garde theater since 1999.

The Arts Walk program attracts  foot traffic downtown, drawing people of all ages across the city and state. Started in 2003 as an annual street bazaar, Arts Walk became a recurring opportunity to spotlight artists and support local downtown businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Arts Walks provide an opportunity to meet and support artists and creative entrepreneurs, and shop locally with the downtown merchants who host them.

This FY24 community arts project is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Fall Arts Walks are made possible by the Morgantown Event Advancement Fund, courtesy of the City of Morgantown and the Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau.
