Benjamin Harvey Jr.

Benjamin Williamson Harvey Jr., 91, of Terra Alta, Whetsell Settlement community, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.  

Ben was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Wheeling, son of the late Ben W. Harvey Sr. and Eleanor Duvall Schleihauf. 

Ben was a salesman, building contractor, owner and operator of Century 21 and Central Pioneer Real Estate Co., with his second wife, Eleanor. He began his career as a salesman for Empire Lumber and went on to open his own building construction company. He loved Preston County and was always looking for opportunities to improve the area. He was instrumental in building the Kingwood Shopping Center, Green Acres Apartments, Westpointe Housing Development and many homes around the area. 

Ben was a member and past president of the West Virginia Home Builders Association and a member of the Kingwood Jaycees. 

Ben loved all things related to sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He enjoyed attending many WVU Mountaineer games also. He was a member of the Preston Country Club, where he played golf for many years. Later in life he enjoyed socializing at the Kingwood Senior Center and a cup of McDonald’s coffee with special friends. 

Ben is survived by his children, Sharon Forman (Bill), Scott Harvey (Tina); grandchildren, Jared Forman (Jen), Alex Forman (Jessica Gibson), Zack Harvey (Presley); great-grandchildren, Levi and Luca Forman, Eli and Max Gibson; niece, Sally Harvey-Deep; stepchildren, Jeff Hartley (Tracy), Tammy Wiles (Jeff); stepgrandchildren, Jacob, Mitchell, Chris, JoBeth, Briane, Rachel; and many stepgreat-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his stepfather, Earl Schleihauf; sister, Joy Stevens; brother, Bill Harvey; his first wife, Susan Harvey; his second wife, Eleanor Harvey; and stepson, Mark Hartley. 

The family would like to thank Mon Health Medical Center, especially the doctors and nurses on the fourth floor step-down unit for their kind and compassionate care. Also, thanks to everyone at the Madison Center for all the help and kindness towards their dad. 

Friends and family will be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral hour with the Rev. David Spence officiating. Cremation services will be accorded by Kingwood Funeral Home and Cremation.
