A Michigan man was charged with malicious battery after allegedly beating a woman on High Street in Morgantown on Saturday, Aug. 31.
At around 3:38 a.m., Morgantown Police were called to a traffic stop conducted by deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department regarding a possible domestic incident that occurred on High Street.
According to court documents, deputies stated they conducted the stop and saw a female passenger “covered in blood, bruises, swelling, and other injuries that were consistent with being in an altercation.”
MPD officer J. LaNeve then spoke with two witnesses to the High Street fight who reported a male individual, later identified as Santonio Delano Dann, 34, of Redford, Mich., punched and kicked the woman several times in the face.
LaNeve was also able to view surveillance footage the showed Dann punch the victim in the head then grab her by the hair and throw her to the ground. With the woman on the ground, he then kicked and punched her in the head, the criminal complaint states.
Dann was charged with malicious battery and bail was set at $75,000.
LaNeve noted on the criminal complaint that he did not believe the name that Dann provided was his actual name. MPD officials said they are following up on the suspect’s identity.
