Melissa “June” Alexander, 82, of Morgantown, passed away at Mon Health Medical Center on Monday, September 2, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Denzil and Roma (Cutlip) Taylor.
She was a 1959 graduate of Morgantown High School and a member of St. Luke Roman Catholic Church. She worked for many years in the family business. June was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was very involved in her daughters’ lives. She was a band mom, dance mom and loved cheering on her grandchildren from the stands. In the winter, she enjoyed visiting Florida. In the summer, she gardened and took care of her flowers.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George Frederick “Fred” Alexander; daughters, Melissa Alexander Costanza and husband, Rob and Christine Alexander Waylett and husband, Darin; grandchildren, Roman Costanza, Adrianna Costanza and Smith Waylett; siblings, Barry Taylor and wife, Benetta and Bill Taylor and wife, Connie; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Diane (DiPetta) Taylor.
Friends and family will be received at St. Luke Catholic Church, 19 Jo Glen Drive, Morgantown, from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8. Visitation will continue at the church from 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Biju T. Devassy as celebrant. A private family committal service will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover at a later time. Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
