A Kingwood police officer was charged Saturday for an incident in which he is accused of discharging a firearm and damaging fiber optic facilities.
Preston County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Brandonville area and found Chase Waugh, 21, of Bruceton Mills, had just fired multiple shots. The shots did more than $2,500 in damage to fiber optic facilities owned by Prodigi, authorities said.
Waugh was charged with felony destruction of property and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Waugh was in training at the West Virginia State Police Academy on behalf of the Kingwood Police Department.
Police Chief Lawson Stewart said Waugh was no longer with the department due to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and possible additional charges could be filed.
