Doris Fletcher

Doris Jean Sapp Fletcher, 91, passed away peacefully in Morgantown on September 2, 2024.

Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Fairmont, to Jennings Ray Sapp and Edith Summers Sapp, Doris’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with dedication to family, friends and the simple joys of life.

Her early years in Fairmont were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, the values instilled in her during these formative times remained a guiding light throughout her life. Her journey was shared with her beloved husband, Charles David Fletcher, until his passing; together, their legacy of love continued to flourish through their family and community.

Doris dedicated many years to the Monongalia County Board of Education as a custodian, a role in which she took great pride. Her invaluable contribution to the schools and the countless students she encountered over years of service was one of the silent threads that helped to hold the fabric of the community together. Her diligent work extended beyond the walls of educational institutions, touching the lives of all through her unwavering commitment and care.

Surviving Doris is her cherished daughter, Susan Grubb. She was the adored grandmother of Christa Bush (Ken) and Jason Grubb (Sabrina), and the proud great-grandmother of Julie and Lindsay Bush and Carter and Cameron Grubb. Doris was also the beloved aunt to Mary Kisner, who, alongside several other nieces and nephews, will carry forward her legacy of kindness.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles; and her siblings, Pauline Staggers, Irene Fletcher, Leo Sapp, Ray Sapp and Charles “Bunk” Sapp. Each of them held a special place in Doris’s heart, and now they are reunited.

A woman of many interests, Doris found happiness in the simplicity of life’s pleasures. She had a passion for gardening, playing cards and working puzzles — pastimes that often became venues for creating cherished memories. Above all else, Doris reveled in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She understood that the most precious gifts are found in moments shared with loved ones.
