Charity Partner Program kicks off at Old Stone House

Service League of Morgantown is kicking off the 17th year of its Charity Partner Program this week. 

The program encourages people to shop at the Old Stone House Gift Shop now through the end of the year and again for 11 days in January. Each week will feature an area charity to which Service League will donate 10% of its gross sales to that charity.  

Money from this week, will be  donated to Empty Bowls.  

Scott’s Run Settlement House will be the recipient from Sept. 9-15.  

A unique retail space steeped in history and philanthropy, the Old Stone House is  at 313 Chestnut St. in downtown Morgantown. The gift shop is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday  and offers a  variety of unique gift items, seasonal décor, Blenko glass, food products, West Virginia souvenirs, handcrafted items and used books.  

Service League’s active membership selected  sixteen organizations to partner with in 2024-25 and each will receive 10% percent of the shop’s gross sales or a $400 minimum during the designated dates.

Since the Charity Partner Program began in 2008, Service League has donated  $62,966 to worthy Monongalia County non-profits selected each fiscal year by  active Service League membership. Last year, a total of $6,967 was shared with Girls on the Run, Catholic Charities, Mon County Special Olympics, Sarah’s Table at St. John’s Catholic Church, Literacy Volunteers, WV Family Grief Center, CASA for Kids, St. Ursula’s Food Pantry and Outreach, SteppingStones, Meals on Wheels, Community Kitchen, Empty Bowls, RDVIC, Pantry Plus More, Scott’s Run Settlement House and Mon County Child Advocacy Center.  

Making a difference in the local community is always the goal.  

Since 1935, the Old Stone House has been owned and operated by Service League of Morgantown. There are no paid employees. gift shop sales fund year-round community projects, food pantries and scholarships. This summer the group provided scholarships for students in financial need to attend 4-H Camp and the WVU Engineering Challenge Camps plus sponsored several attendees at Mountaineer Boys State and Rhododendron Girls State. A $500 donation was also given to the West Virginia Botanic Garden for a sensory garden for those with special needs.  

In its 89 years of existence, the league has contributed more than $456,816 to the Morgantown community, including over $26,000 to the Morgantown Public Library and approximately $86,263 towards books for Monongalia County School libraries. 

The Old Stone House was built around 1795 and is the oldest stone dwelling in the county. It is listed on the National Historic Registry.
