MORGANTOWN — Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall was named on a Becker’s Hospital Review list of the 12 best hospitals in the nation for short emergency department wait times.
Mon Health Marion’s median wait time for the period of October 2022 through September 2023 was 60 minutes, an improvement from 79 minutes for the prior 12-month period ending September 2022.
Rio Grande Hospital, in Del Norte, Colo., ranked first with a 38-minute median wait time. The next three had times of 43, 47 and 55 minutes; three hospitals had 58-minute waits; one had 59 minutes; and Mon Health Marion was one of four with 60-minute waits.
Becker’s explained that it compiled its list using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Timely and Effective Care-Hospital data.
Nationwide, the median ED visit time was 163 minutes — 2.72 hours — Becker’s said.
It noted that most hospitals on the list are small community or critical-access hospitals that may see lower annual ED volumes and patient acuities than facilities operating Level 1 or 2 trauma centers.
Becker’s also released a list of the 10 hospitals with the longest median ED wait times. Delta Health System-The Medical Center was worst at 518 minutes — 8.63 hours — although that was an improvement over the prior year’s 744 minutes (12.4 hours).
Duke University Hospital was second-worst, at 433 minutes (7.22 hours). Harris Health System in Houston was 10 on the list, at 380 minutes (6.33 hours).
Dr. Christopher Edwards, Mon Health and Davis Health Emergency Services medical director and chief administrative officer of Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital, commented, “When facing a medical emergency, we want the residents of Marion County to know that we put their care needs first and that they can count on us to receive the best, most-timely care in the state.
“We are extremely proud to be named among the 12 hospitals in the nation with the shortest visit times,” he continued, “and we are committed to be the healthcare provider that makes efficient and exceptional patient care a top priority.”
David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System (Vandalia Health North), commented, “At Mon Health, we ensure we are always patient-centered.
