Man jailed after attempted High Street robbery

A Morgantown man is in jail after allegedly attempting to rob the doorman at Joe Mama’s bar and dance club on Aug. 22.

Morgantown Police were called to the scene of the attempted robbery at 345 High St. and spoke with the employee who was collecting cover charges at the door of the club.

According to a criminal complaint, the doorman advised police a man — later identified as Michael Dante Mayle, 30, of Morgantown — was walking down High Street when he attempted to take the cash from his hand.

The doorman said in the process of Mayle’s attempt both parties got into a wrestling-type match for the money, but Mayle eventually gave up and retreated down High Street.

Mayle was later found by police and identified by the doorman as the person who attempted to take the cash from him.

Mayle was charged with second-degree robbery and is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail.  Court records show a bond was set at $20,000.
