Imagination Library sends books to young children

Do your kids love to read, are learning to read, or are you trying to get kids excited about reading? Well, I have the best news — there is a program that will send  books straight to your house for your kiddos and it is completely free!

If you don’t know what I’m talking about yet, it is called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! Yep, you read that right.

Dolly Parton, the country queen herself, started a program to help get more books into the hands of kids. I heard about this from my sister-in-law and thought it was the best thing. There are a few requirements for it though.

First, it does depend on where you live. Not everywhere in the country does the Imagination Library. I’m not  sure why that is. Hopefully it keeps expanding its reach.

The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties runs the program locally.

If you are not in those counties, you can check your location availability at imaginationlibrary.com. Just click the “check availability” button. If it is in your area, your child can receive books from birth to age 5.

Right now, my toddler is very interested in reading. He is constantly  grabbing books off his bookshelf and bringing them to me to read.

I love this and want to help nurture his love of reading for as long as possible. So, the fact that I can get a book in the mail every month is amazing. It comes straight to our house and being  free is a plus.

I do wish that the Imagination Library went to older ages as well. I think my 6-year-old would  love to  have books mailed to her. Especially with her learning to read.

If you are in Monongalia or Preston County, you can sign up through unitedwaympc.org or go to imaginationlibrary.com for more information.
