Justice continues fundraising lead over Elliott in U.S. Senate race

MORGANTOWN — With just over 11 weeks to the general election, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Gov. Jim Justice remains well ahead of Democratic rival Glenn Elliott for campaign fundraising.

They are vying to succeed Sen. Joe Manchin, who announced his retirement last November and then switched from Democrat to Independent in May.

The campaigning is between full quarterly reports to the FEC — the next one is due Oct. 15 — but current figures show Justice advancing in fundraising and spending since the July 15 report.

He has two committees: Jim Justice for U.S. Senate, and Justice for WV Senate Republican Nominee Fund.

Combined, they took in $2,387,328.03 in individual contributions; $449,500 from PACs; and $697,343.78 in transfers from other committees.

Unlike in his gubernatorial campaigns, Justice hasn’t donated to or lent his campaign any money, current FEC records show.

Combined operating expenditures were $2,578,355.36. Cash on hand was $799,423.18.

Elliott is a former Wheeling mayor. His campaign committee shows no 24- or 48-hour updates and his numbers appear unchanged since July.

He shows $251,761.96 in individual contributions and $500 from PACs. Operating expenditures were $181,827.40. Cash on hand was $69,134.56.
