David Pugh

David Everett Pugh, born March 20, 1945, in Morgantown, passed away peacefully at his home on August 19 with his family by his side.

David is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Carolyn Hoclar Pugh; his children, Mandy Melohn (Jim) and Kevin Pugh; his beloved grandsons, Mason Melohn and Nicholas Pugh; sister, Ann Marra (Mike) and brother, Terry Pugh (Cathy).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Frances Grimmett Pugh.

David served in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War and awarded Expert for Marksmanship. He went on to work as a bank officer at First National Bank for 27 years before bravely venturing into retail as a self-employed businessman.

A lifelong bowler, David was very active in the local bowling circuit and was inducted into the West Virginia Bowling Hall of Fame. He loved the outdoors and was a long-time member of the Rhododendron Hunting Club. He enjoyed woodworking, travelling and was always up for adventure.

His greatest joy was his family. He and his wife were loving partners in every aspect of life. He was deeply involved throughout his children’s lives, volunteering as scout leader, band parent, ball coach, dance dad and any other role he could fill to be there for them. This passion and dedication carried over to his grandsons. His love and interest in everything they did filled him with joy and made his days complete.

Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover, from 4-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. with Fathers Gary Naegele and John DiBacco as concelebrants. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
