Mark Tanner Sr.

Mark Reed Tanner Sr., 77, of Morgantown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

He was born Aug. 1, 1947, in Fairchance, Pa., to Edgar and Jennie Christopher Tanner. He was among one of the two sets of triplets that were born in Uniontown Hospital up to that time.

Mark loved the outdoors and wildlife. He enjoyed feeding and watching the wildlife – birds, squirrels, deer – from his front porch. He also loved playing cards, singing, playing his harmonica and just making others laugh. He always had a way of making everyone feel at home and would do anything for anyone.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Dolores; daughters, Kimberley Adams and partner, Gordon, Shelley Tate and partner, Joe, Beth (Kevin) Guthrie; son, Mark (Amy) Tanner Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley (Jon) Snyder, William (Amanda) Adams, Sabbath (Matthew) Hudock, Kevin Guthrie Jr., Zachary (Breanna) Guthrie, Jillian Mayes, Katlynn Tanner, William Price, Mark Tanner III, Mason Pastorius, Hunter Chipps, Madison Chipps; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Chanelle, Jocelyn, Brooke, Adalynn, Liam, Levi, Nehemiah, Waylon and Genevieve.

Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Isa Angel, Tom (Theresa) Tanner, Marvin Tanner, Marlene (Gary) Sutton, Needi (Dink) Weaver and Kathy (Ralph) Kelley; sisters-in-law, Doris, Judy; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Marilyn Janosik, Stacey Honsaker, Lee Clendenin and Joe Alchimowicz.

Mark was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Earl Whoolery (Iona), Sherman Whoolery (Nancy), Eddie Tanner, Danny Tanner, Fred Tanner (Joyce) and Mike Tanner (Joanne); sister, Eleanor (Rich) Grimm; sister-in-law, Sherri Tanner; brother-in-law, Joe Angel.

He was formerly employed with the West Virginia Newspapers Dominion Post for many years until his retirement.

The family will greet friends and family in the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, PA, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, and from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason Lamer officiating.

Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
