Dorothy Alexander

It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy Jean Alexander (Nickolas), on Monday, June 24, 2024.

She was born on March 6, 1935, in Glendale.

Dorothy married Camille Alexander in 1954 and moved to Bruceton Mills two years later. There, she supported her husband in establishing Alexander Coal Company.

Dorothy truly fits the saying, “Dynamite comes in small packages.” She was active in supporting the Lions Club with her husband, Camille, and in her children’s local bake sales by offering her specialty delicious pies. In 1984, Dorothy helped build and establish the Catholic Church in Bruceton Mills. And, most importantly, for her children, grandchildren, family and friends, Dorothy always had an open door with a bed to offer, a meal prepared and a cup of hot coffee poured.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Camille; her son, Dave; her twin sister, Delores Fraas; her sister, Patricia Sickle; and her brother, George Nickolas.

Dorothy leaves behind a great legacy in her family members, Donna Alexander (wife of Dave Alexander); son, Tom Alexander (wife, Susan); son, Rob Alexander (wife, Jodie); and daughter, Michelle Casuccio (husband, Alex). Also surviving are grandchildren, Matthew Alexander (wife, Corine with children, Avery, Grant and Silas); Joseph Alexander (wife, Amanda with children, Mia, Soloman, Teagen and Abraham); Heather Dyer (husband, Chris with child, Kinsley); Hailey Alexander, Jason Alexander and Ryan Alexander (wife, Shelby with children, Leon, Mia and Luke); and Justin Hale (wife, Courtney with children, Wyatt and Hunter).

A Liturgy outside of mass will be held at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, with Father Dominic Athishu as celebrant. Following, there will be a visitation from 2-4 p.m. for family and friends. A private interment will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery beside her husband, Camille Alexander.
