It’s fair week!

They got racin’ dogs and fancy hogs.

They got amateur fights and men in tights.

They got tilt-a-whirls, pretty girls, tractor shows, a rodeo, smashed up cars, cultivars, pillowcases, baby races … and Landau Eugene Murphy.

That’s not to mention a Texas Roadhouse roll eating contest that you can still sign up for.

It’s fair week.

“We’re excited,” Fair Board Treasurer Shawnda Cook said.

Copy that.

As you’re reading this, C&L Shows is rolling a traveling amusement park into Mylan Park — but you can’t show up until Tuesday.

First, you gotta come down to High Street for Monday evening’s fair parade, stepping off at 7 p.m. under the watchful eye of Parade Marshal Steve Harper representing Bikers, Bros & Bo, a nonprofit created in honor of PFC Andrew “Bo” Harper, who gave his life in Afghanistan in 2011 as a 19-year-old man.

The same organization is hosting Bike Night at the fair Friday evening.

Murphy takes the mic at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mylan Park to officially kick things off.

To try to list all the activities planned between Tuesday and Saturday would be foolish. You can see the entire schedule at moncountyfair.org.

It costs $10 to get in, unless you happen to be two or under. On Saturday, the first 500 kids get in free starting at noon courtesy of Hope Gas and Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat of Morgantown.

Cook said the festivities have been in the works since the 2023 fair ended.

“We are very excited about everything we have going on this year. When we kicked off planning this year we had a new board of directors. We’ve made it our goal to make this an event the community will love and want to continue to support,” she said.

“Come out and see us at the fair.”
