BOPARC gets initial look at improved ice arena

MORGANTOWN — Omni Associates has provided BOPARC with some initial renderings of its vision for an updated Morgantown Ice Arena.

BOPARC Executive Director Melissa Wiles said she expects to have project bids in-hand by Thanksgiving and initial stages of the project to begin shortly after Jan. 1.

She said Omni is currently working on the design development process for the modified ice arena improvements.

As has been reported, this will be a scaled-back project focusing on community use.

Preliminary estimates have put the work in the $3 million-$4 million price range.

The upgrades will include a new chiller, a new dehumidification unit, upgraded mechanical, electrical and plumbing, a new building exterior, a new roof, an improved dasher board system, rubberized flooring and other ice-related amenities.

When the ice arena opens later this month, it will mark the last season the facility supports competitive hockey.

Construction of a $15 million-to-$17 million ice arena in Mylan Park will begin in the coming months.

Starting in 2025, the Morgantown Ice Arena will be open for community use from October to February.
