David Thomas (“Tom”) Murray, 67, of Morgantown, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 6. He entered into eternity unexpectedly at Mon Health after spending a beautiful week on a family vacation in Ocean City, Md.
Tom was born on Nov. 20, 1956, in Morgantown, the son of the late Elmer and Ella (Hubbard) Murray.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Ruth Ann (Cook) Murray, with whom he lovingly raised five children: Steven Davis, Tim (Ashley) Davis, Mandi Murray and Candi (Ed) Pillar.
Tom was preceded in death by his son, Travis Murray, leaving behind a very special daughter-in-law, Sasha Murray.
Tom was one of 12 children, and is survived by Raymond (Peg) Murray, Gilbert (Cheryl) Murray, Wilbert Murray, Norma Deavers, Velma Jean (Paul Jo) Hart, Barbara Jean (Paul) Dalton and Doris (Orville) Deavers. Tom leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Murray; and his sisters, Beulah Summers, Eva Blosser and Charolette Kay Tennant; and many others who have passed on before him.
Tom, who had a big heart and strong work ethic, dropped out of school at a young age to support his family after the passing of their mother. Tom was a jack of all trades and worked construction all his life. He was also a highly skilled machine operator. Tom built many homes in and around Morgantown, and he had many skills that he passed on to others, most notability to his children. Tom made many friends throughout his life, and he seemingly never met a stranger. Farming, livestock auctions, NASCAR, westerns and flea markets brought Tom a lot of joy along with spending time with his grandchildren, Andrew and Logan Davis, Harper Higgs, Christian and Leia Pillar and Audrey Davis.
Tom was one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. It brings the family peace to know Tom is now reunited in heaven with his dear son, Travis.
Friends and family will be received at Nicholson Chapel, Summers School Road, Morgantown, WV, from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, August 9. Visitation will continue at the church from 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donna Dalton and Pastor Bob Gidley officiating.
