Bette Bishoff

Bette Sypolt Bishoff passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  

Bette was born on May 20, 1934, on Green’s Run in Kingwood to the late Thomas Omanial and Alma Frances Turner Sypolt. She was the granddaughter of the late John and Maggie Sypolt and Thomas and Cora Turner.  

Bette graduated from Kingwood High School in 1952. After graduation, she worked at Bartletts Drug Store, H&P Store, Ben Franklin Store, The Inn and the Social Security Office, all in Kingwood, before marrying the late William Corl and moving to Patterson, N.J. before beginning her career at Isadora Klenert-Charles Alfano Law Firm. They then moved to Baltimore where she worked for Glenn L. Martin Aircraft and Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md. Bette then moved to Nashville and worked at Southwest Publishing Company and retired from Nashville Electric Service in 1999. She then relocated back home to Preston County and married the late Jesse Bishoff, and they shared 25 years together. 

Bette was predeceased by her husbands, William Corl, of Rockwell, N.C., Lawrence Buchman, of Baltimore, and Jesse Bishoff, of Cuzzart, W.Va.  

She is survived by her son, Thomas Corl (Eveon), of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Jeanie Calvert (David), of Kingwood; a step-grandson, Tyler Martin, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a niece, Tamara Detrick (Brian); a nephew, Tim Calvert (Mimi), of Dallas; two great-nieces, Caroline Dawson, of Exton, Pa., and Meredith Hale (Jesse), of Kingwood; three step-sons, Steve Bishoff (Debbie), Mark Bishoff (Drema), Vaughn Bishoff (LeAnne), all of Cuzzart, W.Va. A special thanks to Debbie Bishoff for her love and care during this time.  

Bette was a fan of country music and attended many shows while living in Nashville. She enjoyed shopping and eating all kinds of ice cream treats. She was an excellent executive secretary and still played “office” in her home after retirement. She truly loved her family and enjoyed all the family times together. Bette was a member of the Kingwood Church of the Nazarene where her nephew is the pastor. 

Friends and family will be received for visitation at the Kingwood Church of the Nazarene located at 125 Wellsley St. from 12-3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. A Memorial Service will follow at 3 p.m. with Dr. Brian Detrick officiating. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood. 

Donations in her memory can be made to the Kingwood Church of the Nazarene Building Fund. 

Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
