Do you have a boat and would like to help raise funds for area programs while scooting around Cheat Lake?
Join the Cheat Lake Rotary for the Nancy Stout Memorial Poker Run beginning at noon Saturday.
Stout, who died in April, was an active member of the Cheat Lake Rotary Club. She was just 69.
She organized many fundraising activities for the club, especially those involving Cheat Lake. She had a boat on the lake for many years and enjoyed other members of the boating community.
The start location will be at the Cheat Lake Park Public Day Docks, near the restrooms.
Registration is $25 per person, with no limit on the entries per person or watercraft. You can register early at cheatlakerotary.org; scroll down to upcoming events.
Or, you can register Saturday at the starting point.
This poker run will work much like those many of us are more familiar with on motorcycles.
Participants will pull into the dock and show a registration receipt or buy a ticket. There, they’ll get a card sheet with designated stops and the first playing card.
Go to each stop in the game, in any order, and get a card at each one. These stops will be marked with banners.
Return to the starting docks by 4 p.m. to turn in your card sheet, showing what card you drew at each stop.
Winners will be announced there at 4:15 p.m.
The goal is to get the best poker hand of all those participating.
The proceeds from the event will go toward Cheat Lake Rotary’s programs and services.
There will also be cash prizes for two Poker Run participants: $1,000 for the best hand and $300 for the worst hand.
Like all Rotary clubs, Cheat Lake takes the “service above self” tradition seriously.
Those interested in learning more about Rotary can join the Cheat Lake club from 7:30-8:30 a.m. any Tuesday for a breakfast meeting at the Cranberry Hotel, 2700 Crandberry Square.
