William Eugene “Gene” Wimer, 88, passed away at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis on July 30, 2024.
He was born in Morgantown on Nov. 16, 1935, to Roscoe N. and Josephine (Colaw) Wimer.
He married ValDel (Kennell) Wimer on June 7, 1958. They were happily married 66 years.
Gene graduated from Morgantown High School in 1953 and West Virginia University in 1958. Immediately following university, he proudly served his county as a munitions officer in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1962, he started his career with PPG Industries. He would stay with PPG in chemical engineering and licensing of PPG’s technology around the world for his entire career. During this time, he resided in New Martinsville, W.Va., Pittsburgh, Portland, Texas and Akron, Ohio. He retired in Indianapolis to be closer to his grandchildren.
Gene enjoyed music, reading and the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roscoe N. (Elaine) Wimer Jr. and Harold “Pete” Wimer; and sister, Faye (Don) Annonio.
In addition to his wife, Val, he is survived by daughters, Debbie (Steve) Willsey, of League City, Texas, Kim Stewart, of Indianapolis; son, Mike (Tammy) Wimer, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Doctors Matt (Kylene) Willsey, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mark (MaryJo) Willsey, of League City, Texas, Kelli Willsey (Emerson Cruz), of Indianapolis, Josh Wimer, of Indianapolis and Jake Wimer, of Overland Park, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Ginny, Luke, George, Eliza, Priscilla, Elise, Charlie, Jack, Zoe and one on the way; sister, Ellen Hagedorn, of Lansdowne, Pa.; sister-in-law, Janice Wimer, of Morgantown; brother-in-law, Bill (Judy) Kennell, of Morgantown; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Magnolia Springs Memory Way for the exceptional care provided to Gene.
