Mary Louella Shaffer, 88, passed away peacefully in White Marsh, Md. on May 8, 2024.
Born in Preston County, she was the daughter of the late Avis and Virgil Kidwell.
In 1957, Mary married Everett Shaffer, and they spent over 65 years together. Mary was an amazing caregiver to her family, friends and others in need.
She was also a leader in multiple organizations throughout her life including her churches, school PTA, Cress Cemetery Association and the Preston County Historical Society. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking for her large family and others, producing many delicious pot roasts, pies and sugar cookies.
Mary is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Rose (Fred), Brenda (Stew), Linda (Andy) and Trudy (John). She and Everett have been blessed with 12 grandchildren, Ben, Margaret, Jon, Emily, Rachel, Becca, Stephanie, Olivia, Tabitha, Luke, Noah and John and their spouses; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She had two brothers who preceded her in death, Bub and Bill, whom she treasured.
Mary loved the large family gatherings where amazing food and good company were paramount. She had a magical touch with the babies! She also loved family reunions in West Virginia.
Gatherings celebrating Mary’s life will be held in Maryland and in West Virginia.
The Maryland visitation and service was held at Fallston United Methodist Church, 1509 Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047, at 1 p.m. on June 15.
The West Virginia service will be held at the Albright Methodist Church on Aug. 10. The visitation time will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m.
Her final resting place will be Cress Cemetery in Hudson, West Virginia.
