The Morgantown area offers many unique activities for outdoor enthusiasts. In recent years, Jazzy’s Hydrobikes joined the roster, allowing residents and visitors alike to explore Morgantown’s waterways in an inventive mode of transport — the Hydrobike.
Pedal-powered watercraft have been around for over a century and have taken many forms over the years. The Hydrobike brand was founded by Ray Buresch of Minnesota in 1990 and is currently found in over 70 countries worldwide. Buresch’s version of the contraption resembles a traditional bicycle frame grafted onto a set of pontoons for buoyancy. The pedals drive a rear propeller, allowing the rider to “bike” on water. Hydrobiking has all the fitness, sustainability and entertainment value of regular biking without the headache and risk associated with sharing the road with motorists.
Jazzy’s Hydrobikes first brought this innovation to the Monongahela River in 2023, allowing adventurers to experience Morgantown from a refreshing perspective. Situated in Edith Barill Riverfront Park in Star City, rentals start at $15 for a 30-minute session, including all necessary safety equipment. The bikes are designed to keep riders dry and secure, accommodating up to 400 pounds. Rental prices include all safety equipment.
Jazzy’s allows patrons to cap off a wild and wonderful outdoor experience with a sweet treat by selling milkshakes, ice cream and shaved ice onsite.
Open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, weather permitting, Jazzy’s Hydrobikes operates on a first-come, first-served basis and accepts both cash and card payments. With its blend of water adventures and tasty refreshments, Jazzy’s Hydrobikes is an excellent spot for families, friends, or couples looking to enjoy a fun day out.
