James Edwin Smith, 84, of Kingwood, passed away at the WV Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1939, in Detroit, Mich., a son of the late Joseph Smith and Mildred (Weaver) Smith.
James graduated from Kingwood High School and WVU. He was a Nationwide Insurance agent where he owned and operated his business since 1965. James was an outdoorsman and avid hunter.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey J. Smith and wife, Cassie, of Morgantown; daughter, Sonia J. Greaser and husband, Robert, of Terra Alta; daughter-in-law, Dawn Smith, of Morgantown; brother, Larry Smith; sister, Carolyn McCain; five grandchildren, Dane (Quynh) Greaser, Chelsey (Matt) McMillian, Levi Smith, McKinzee Smith and Addison Smith; six great-grandchildren, Joceyn and Alannah Goodlyn, Barrett, Sunny, Skye and Sylvie.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his loving wife, Connie Carrico Smith; son, Jay Michael Smith; and sister, JoAnn Markwood.
To honor James’ wishes, cremation services will be entrusted with the Arthur H Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta. Private family services will be held at a later date with inurnment at the Aurora Cemetery.
