Austin trio Fastball set to perform at the McQuain Amphitheater

Austin trio Fastball is appearing  Aug. 9 at the McQuain Amphitheater in Morgantown.

The free concert is part of the Ruby Summer Concert Series. Music begins at 7 p.m.

Fastball’s Tony Scalzo will be live on WVRC radio on Thursday.

The band’s ninth studio album, Sonic Ranch has been out less than one month, and so far, has garnered among the strongest reviews of the band’s 30-year career.

In response to the growing buzz for the new Fastball album, the band is expected to add more American tour dates.

A recent album review in the Austin Chronicle says, “The men of Fastball have created in their ninth studio release, Sonic Ranch, an accidental piece of brilliant rock & roll that could be the band’s most cohesive and musically mature album to date. Lead single and opening track ‘Rather Be Me Than You’ sets a familiar tone — pop music without the fuss. There’s much of that here — music for the sake of music, a band crafting songs because it seems natural to do so.”

Fastball is made up of  Miles Zuniga (vocals, guitar), Tony Scalzo (vocals, bass, keyboards, guitar), and Joey Shuffield (drums, percussion). They are  marking the band’s 30th anniversary with a year-long celebration.

Founded in 1994, the trio rocketed to the forefront of the alt-rock explosion with its   second album, 1998’s Platinum certified “All the Pain Money Can Buy.”
