MORGANTOWN — One of the top specialists in West Virginia will remain in the Mountain State as Morgantown High School’s Aidan Stire announced his commitment to play for head coach Neal Brown and the Mountaineers on Thursday.
“First, I would like to thank God for allowing me to be here today and keeping me safe while playing the game I love,” Stire said in a statement he released on social media. “I want to thank my parents, my biggest supporters, for their encouragement in helping me achieve my dream. I am honored and excited to announce my commitment to play football at West Virginia University.”
Stire, a multisport athlete for MHS, has made strides throughout his three years as a Mohigan and didn’t want to let this opportunity slip away.
“This means a lot to me,” he said. “I’ve worked so hard for this, and it’s always been a dream of mine to represent my hometown, which has supported me throughout my sports journey as it comes full circle.”
With his senior season ahead of him, Stire feels good about having his commitment out of the way while he can focus on preparing to play Division I football at WVU.
“It does relieve a little bit of pressure knowing I’ve made my decision, and it’s one less thing to worry about,” Stire said. “But I still need to perform and grow. It allows me to focus on my senior year at MHS while preparing also to join WVU.”
MHS head coach Sean Biser said Stire’s raw athletic ability has impressed him from day one and that WVU is a great fit for him to continue his kicking career.
“He has worked continually to improve his natural abilities,” Biser said. “He has a strong leg and has worked hard to get even stronger. Aidan is a great all-around athlete in multiple sports, and I believe that’s taught him how to compete and perform in many different pressure situations. If he takes advantage of how WVU can develop and improve their players, the sky is the limit for him.”
Now heading into his senior year with MHS, Stire hopes to continue making the strides he’s been able to make thus far.
“The keys for me are to become more consistent and stretch my range,” he said. “Also, I want to build on last season’s success of having a positive impact strategically, being able to put the team in positions to win.”
