Eight current and former Mountaineers to compete at Paris Olympics

MORGANTOWN — Eight Mountaineers are set to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games from Thursday, July 25, through Friday, Aug. 9. WVU athletes will represent four countries at the games, competing for Australia, Canada, Nigeria and the United States.

Mary Tucker (United States) was on the WVU Rifle team from 2022-24. During her time at WVU she shot in 19 Air Rifle matches and averaged 598.308. In the smallbore category, she shot in 19 matches and averaged 591.846. She won the 2024 smallbore NCAA Individual National Championship.

Kadeisha Buchanan (Canada) played for the WVU women’s soccer team in 2013-16. During her time at WVU, she started 67 games as a defender and scored a total of six goals during her career. 

Ivan Puskovitch (United States) swam for the WVU swimming and diving team in 2023-24.

Blessing Ejiofor (Nigeria) played for the WVU women’s basketball team in 2019-22. During her time at WVU, she played 85 games and started in 27 games. She averaged 2.5 points per game and scored a total of 209. 

Ceili McCabe (Canada) ran for the WVU cross-country and track and field teams in 2019-24. She qualified for the Olympics by winning the Canadian National Championship in the steeplechase in June.

Ashley Lawrence (Canada) played for the WVU women’s soccer team in 2013-16. During her time at WVU, she started 67 games at midfield and scored a total of 13 goals during her career. 

Amy Cashin (Australia) ran for the WVU track and field team in 2016-18, running the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Sydney Pickrem (Canada) is the assistant coach for WVU swimming and diving. A Texas A&M graduate, Pickrem also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the individual medley and breaststroke.
