Natalie Webb, the former principal of North Elementary School in Morgantown, was back in court Monday afternoon with defense attorney Tyler Slavey.
In October 2023, Webb was found guilty of failing to report the abuse of a student in Monongalia County Magistrate Court following an incident involving an 8-year-old student and then Vice Principal Carol Muniz in January 2023.
Muniz was subsequently charged with battery against a student.
Webb was sentenced in November and ordered to pay a $100 fine for the misdemeanor offense.
However, in March, Muniz was found not guilty of the battery charge from the incident Webb did not report.
An appeal in Monongalia County Circuit Court placed Webb before Judge Cindy Scott Monday to enter a “no contest” plea.
Both sides agreed to, and the court granted, a pre-trial diversion, which will give Webb six months to complete 40 hours of community service to be documented and submitted to the court prior to Webb’s next hearing, and other terms and conditions set by the state.
In six months, if the requirements are met, the charges against Webb will be dropped.
If the requirements are not met, she could face her original sentence – a $100 fine – or a maximum 90 days incarceration.
Prosecutor Gabrielle Mucciola said that should Webb not meet the requirements of the agreement; the state would present the same evidence used in her original conviction.
