Betty Lou Shoemaker Mansberger, 86, of Morgantown, passed away at Morgantown Health & Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
She was born Aug. 25, 1937, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Brooks Earl Shoemaker and the late Eunice Glover Shoemaker.
Betty is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; her “adopted daughter,” Melody Mancini; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Mansberger.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death five short weeks ago on June 12, 2024, by her husband of 63 years, Paul Leroy Mansberger; her siblings, Thelma Louise Lynch, Helen Costello, Brooks Earl Shoemaker and Charles Shoemaker; and a brother-in-law, Gary Mansberger.
Betty worked at McCrory’s 5 & 10 on High Street from the late 1950s until 1970 when she retired. After she retired, she took care of family members, including her niece, Rachel, who lived with Betty and her husband, Leroy, for several years between the ages of eight and 12. Rachel was like a daughter to her, and Betty was like a second mother to Rachel. She was a fantastic cook, loved to crochet and quilt and enjoyed canning the vegetables from her garden.
There will be no funeral home visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery on South Pierpont Road in Morgantown at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 22. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.
