Post 2 walks off Bridgeport to advance to tournament championship

BUCKHANNON – Morgantown Post 2 scored five unanswered runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh, to top Bridgeport Post 68 5-4 Thursday at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Gunner Riley’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Max Cash and sent Post 2 (27-5) into the championship game of the Area 2 tournament today at 7 p.m. It also secures the team a spot in the upcoming state tournament.

Riley also got the team’s scoring started in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a leadoff double and coming around to score Morgantown’s first run of the game.

Bridgeport jumped ahead 4-0 with a four-run top of the fourth. Riley scored on a bases-loaded walk by Tommy Montague to make it 4-1.

Caleb Cottle hit an RBI single and Jett Walters drew another bases-loaded walk to make it 4-3. Montague then scored on a two-out error to tie the game 4-4.

Hunter Dakan pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on four this and striking out four. Montague came on in the top of the seventh and struck out the only batter he faced.

Bridgeport will take on Clarksburg Post 13 in an elimination game today at 4 p.m. The winner will face Morgantown in the championship at 7 p.m. Needing two wins to claim the title.
