Post 2 wins opener at Area 2 tournament

BUCKHANNON – Morgantown Post 2 downed Clarksburg Post 13 6-2 on the first day of the Area 2 Tournament Wednesday evening at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Tristan Milik threw a complete game for Post 2 (26-5), allowing two runs on six hits across seven innings. He struck out five without issuing a walk.

Morgantown jumped on Post 13 early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and one each in the second and third innings.

In the first, Cody Thomas drove in the first run of the game on a double to left field and was brought around to score himself on a single by Tommy Montague.

Gunner Riley’s sacrifice fly scored Jett Walters in the bottom of the second and Walters’ RBI single in the third gave top-seeded Post 2 a 4-0 lead after three innings.

Clarksburg rallied for a run in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to 4-2, but Max Cash and Gabe Templeton each drove in a run in the bottom of the frame to boost Morgantown’s lead back up to four runs.

Cash was the only Post 2 player to log multiple hits, although every member of the starting lineup had a base knock. Thomas, Templeton and Wenkai Campbell all hit a double.

Post 2 advances in the double-elimination tournament to face Bridgeport Post 68 in the winners’ bracket tonight at 7 p.m.
