Trinity Christian announces Mitchell Bland as next boys basketball head coach

MORGANTOWN – After the recent resignation of former head boys’ basketball coach Codey Horton, Trinity Christian School has named Mitchell Bland as the next to lead the TCS high school boys’ program.

Bland is from Fairmont, a North Marion High School graduate, and most recently coached the boys’ team at Morgantown Christian Academy.

“I’ve coached all over Marion County and came to Morgantown so my kids could attend MCA,” Bland said. “When this opportunity came open, I immediately thought it could be a good fit for me. I prayed about it and talked to my family and wife, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity.”

One thing that stands out to Bland most about the chance to coach at TCS is being a part of the WVSSAC and OVAC and competing for championships at a higher level.

“Trinity is a WVSSAC school that has been able to compete at the state level in boys basketball consistently throughout the years,” Bland said. “We know the competition will be there, and utilizing the resources we have to maximize our success will be key. I’m most excited to be able to access a weight room.”

Trinity Christian will also be moving from Class AA to A for the upcoming season, ushering in a new era of TCS boys’ basketball along with its new head coach.

“It’s exciting when things are new and when they can be fresh,” Bland said. “We don’t want to forget where the program came from as far as previous success or coaches, but it’s always a change when a new coach comes in or new players or whatever it is. I think coaching-wise, the team will enjoy what we bring to the table, and we will all adjust as we need to.”

Another thing Coach Bland says stands out about being at TCS is the community support surrounding the school in many different ways.

“Trinity has always been a proud school and has always done great things athletically,” he said. “We hope to continue doing that going forward as a program and even make some strides in helping bring some of the school and community out to games and events and helping us every step of the way. I’m so excited to get started.”
