Bessie “Nadine” Orchard, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 19, 2023, at the age of 92 in Tampa, Fla.
Born on Nov. 30, 1930, in Morgantown, Nadine lived an exemplary life defined by her generosity, adventurous spirit and courage.
Nadine had a passion for reading and exploring the world around her. As the oldest of seven siblings, she quickly learned the value of leadership and service, traits that would guide her through an adventurous life. In an era when few women donned military uniforms, Nadine proudly served her country in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany and subsequently at the Pentagon, exhibiting a courage that would inspire all who knew her. Following her military service, Nadine dedicated numerous years to WVU Medicine until her retirement.
She leaves behind a loving family: her daughter, LuAnn and husband, Tom Jamieson; granddaughters, Verda Riggleman, Catherine and husband, Chris Myer, Kelly, Christine and Shannon Jamieson; grandsons, Patrick Beall, Mike and wife, Laura Jamison, and Alex Jamieson; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Daniell, Tommy, Derek, Ethan, Alexander, Teagan and Hailey.
Nadine’s departure was preceded by her son, Frank Orchard.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 10 a.m. on Friday, July 19, until the time of the service at noon. Nadine will be laid to rest at WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, W.Va.
