Joann Stratton Wanamaker, 93, of Fairmont, passed away at Evergreen Assisted Living in Morgantown on Friday, July 12, 2024.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Otis L. and Dessa Hostetler Stratton.
She graduated from Englewood High School and West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing, in Oak Park, Ill. Joann was employed as a Registered Nurse in Illinois, Maine and West Virginia.
Joann was a member of Baptist churches wherever they were living and served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, ABW officer and was on many boards. She sang in various choirs and played in a hand-bell choir.
Among her interests were traveling, stained glass work, sewing, reading, playing violin and dulcimer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, to whom she was married for 69 years; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Carlson; and a son-in-law, Rick Testa.
Joann is survived by three daughters, Cathy Davis and her husband, Lennis B., of Pennsylvania, Cindy Wanamaker, of Morgantown, and Cheryl Testa, of Virginia; one brother, Clifford Stratton and his wife, Sheila, of Alaska; a sister-in-law, Grace Kunst and her husband, Bill; two grandchildren, Chelsea Speigel and Justin Chase; and two great-grandchildren, Vaughn Chase and Gabriella Spiegel.
Friends and family may call at the First Baptist Church, 904 Farms Drive, Fairmont, WV, from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16. A service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. Dick Hepler and Pastor Kevin Aldana officiating. A burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
