Gwendell Z. “Socker” Nicklow, 79, of Point Marion, Pa., died at his home on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Born in Chatham, Va., he was a son of the late Jonas and Mary Jane (Thomas) Nicklow.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, “Socker” worked in area coal mines, construction and lastly as a corrections officer at SCI Greene. He enjoyed being outdoors in his spare time, hunting and fishing, and indoors watching football or spending time with his family. He was especially skilled at cooking in the kitchen.
Surviving are his three daughters and their spouses, Tricia Wolfe (Kerry), Gwen Yoney (Jeff), all of Point Marion, Pa., and Tara Chesslo (Ben), of Uniontown; one son, Jonas Nicklow, of Point Marion, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, Meghan Lincoln (Justin), Christopher and Levi Wolfe, Faith and Jada Yoney, Taylor and Ava Volek, Miguel and Isaac Nicklow, Evalyn and Lily Chesslo; three great-grandchildren, Alexa Lincoln, Christopher Wolfe II and Jocelynn Black; and his former wives, Peggy Skidmore (Russell) and Debbie Nicklow. He was one of 21 children, and is survived by Dennis, Joe, Tom, Quenten, Gerald, Danny, Becky, Rosemary, Sharon, Susie and Martha.
Deceased are Robert, Warren “Peck”, Jim, Juanita, Quadrue, Jonas “June”, Mary Jane, Richard and Linda. Also deceased is one great-grandson, Elias Wolfe.
A Celebration of his Life is being planned for Sunday, Augu. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Morgantown Restoration Branch of Jesus Christ Church, 28 Eden Church Road. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa.
