WV Caring to hold annual Camp Caring

West Virginia Caring is holding its 28th Annual Camp Caring Saturday at Chestnut Ridge Park, 10 miles east of Morgantown.

Camp Caring is a free, one-day grief and loss camp for children and the adult in their life.

Since 1996, West Virginia Caring has held a grief and loss camp to support children in West Virginia who has lost a loved one. It provides the child an opportunity to spend a day with other children who have also experienced the death of a loved one.

This one-day camp is free and is open to ages 6–14. Campers discover that they can live life in a changed world with a new relationship to their loved one who has died.

Camp Caring focuses on the unique grief process of children. Through fun activities, trained counsellors, art therapy and large and small group activities, the camp empowers each child to be able to express their grief and successfully cope with the feelings of their loss.

Help for the family

The pain of a death affects the whole family. Adults often are at a loss at both how to help the child who is hurting and how to take time to heal as well.

WV Caring has grief workshops for the surviving adults in the child’s life. These sessions will run at the same time as the children’s camp. The purpose is that each family member is strengthened and supported so that the entire family can move forward together on their journey of grief to a place of new normal.
