Sheriff: Fatal shooting an ‘isolated incident’

One person is dead after a shooting early Thursday morning on Mountain Valley Drive outside Morgantown.  Detectives with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) are investigating.

According to a press release authorized by Sheriff Perry Palmer, deputies were called to the Mountain Valley apartment complex at approximately 1:42 a.m.  They arrived to find a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by ambulance to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators believe the alleged killing was an “isolated incident between two acquaintances,” the release said.

The victim’s identity was not released to the public and no arrests had been made Thursday.

Questions about whether investigators had identified a suspect or suspects in the shooting were not answered.  The Dominion Post requested information regarding potential suspect or vehicle descriptions; however, MCSD officials stated no further information was being released Thursday.

Residents of Mountain Valley Drive who live near the 9000 building or anyone with information or video related to the shooting are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 304-291-7260.
