In 1924, a boy named Don Knotts was brought into this world among rolling West Virginia mountains. Little did the world know this boy would grow up to become a five-time Emmy Award-winning actor and beloved icon for the Morgantown community.
The City of Morgantown, in collaboration with Morgantown Magazine, will be celebrating the 100th birthday of Knotts and the Metropolitan Theatre July 20-24.
Don Knotts Movie Marathon
For just $1, visitors can enjoy various iconic movies starring Knotts. Watch “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” at 10 a.m. July 20,
1 p.m. July 21 and July 22. Enjoy “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” at 1 p.m. July 20 and at 7 p.m. July 21. Rounding off the marathon, “The Apple Dumping Gang” will play at 10 a.m. July 21 and “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo” will play at 10 a.m. July 22.
“Andy and Don” literature discussion
Daniel De Vise, Don Knotts’s brother-in-law, wrote the novel, “Andy and Don” to highlight and illustrate the career of Knotts. At 7 p.m. July 20, De Vise will present a talk paired with video clips and a Q-and-A session. Tickets are $10 and available online or at the MET.
Maybell memories
The nephew of the legendary Knotts, Bill Knotts, will present a trip back in time to the town of Mayberry at 7 p.m. July 22. During this event, Bill Knotts will give a nostalgic journey down memory lane as he speaks on family history and accompanying stories. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the MET.
Illusions and escapes by John Knotts
Coming to the Met Theatre from 7-9 p.m. July 23 will be Josh Knotts and a performance full of thrills and illusions. Josh Knotts graduated from West Virginia University, and, in 2016, he earned the prestigious Merlin Award. Enjoy a Las Vegas-style illusion show that will feature various escapes and tricks. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or at the Met.
