Abnash Jain

Dr. Abnash Chander Jain (Abbey), of Morgantown, passed away on July 1, 2024. 

Dr. Jain was born in India on April 26, 1936, to the late Sh. Kishori Lal and Smt. Kalawanti Jain.   

He was a beloved husband, parent, brother, grandparent, uncle and friend to many within the community. 

Dr. Jain dedicated his life to teaching and caring for his patients as a devoted cardiologist. He earned his medical degree from Punjab University in Patiala, India and was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He joined the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1973, serving as a Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology from 1979 to 2006. His career passion has been focused on enriching the lives of countless students, fellows, faculty, staff and patients. 

In honor of his significant achievements in clinical education and excellence, the WVU School of Medicine endowed the Abnash C. Jain Chair of Cardiology in 2018. 

Abbey is survived by his loving wife, Prem; sons, Sandeep and Nitin; daughters-in-law, Himani and Kungun; and five beautiful grandchildren, Milun, Siya, Mehar, Noori and Reyna. He cherished every moment spent with his family and his unwavering admiration for Prem. 

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their friends and loved ones for their overwhelming support and care. 

A funeral service will be held at McCulla Funeral Home in Morgantown at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3.  

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to the Hindu Religious and Cultural Center (HRCC) of Morgantown.
