I am not what I would consider a car enthusiast, but I do plan to be in downtown Morgantown this afternoon when about 120 antique, vintage and collector vehicles will start rolling into town as part of the Great Race.
This lunchtime pitstop is part of a nine-day, 2,300-mile race from Owensboro, Ky., to Gardiner, Maine.
Morgantown is one of 17 cities that make up the Great Race 2024 race route.
Today’s stop breaks up the 183-mile stretch between overnight stays in Marietta, Ohio, and Frostburg, Md.
Ten years ago, we were vacationing near Myrtle Beach, S.C., when the Great Race 2014 made a lunchtime stop at Broadway at the Beach there.
My husband, his parents and I decided we’d have lunch there and walk through the parked vehicles on display.
We saw so many interesting vehicles make their way into North Myrtle, stay awhile and then take off for the next stop.
In Morgantown today, High Street will be closed so the drivers can park in twos along the street. The public is welcome to walk among them from about noon until 3 p.m.

Women United will host its sixth annual Power of the Purse Fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center. It will feature mid- to high-end purse raffles, a live auction, food, entertainment and drinks. Proceeds will go to fund Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides one free book each month to children from birth to age 5. Tickets are $100 and include entry, food, drinks, entertainment and sponsorship for a child for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for one year.

Head to the Edith B. Barill Riverfront Park in Star City for Fun in the “Bark” Saturday.
Appalachian Peace Paws Rescue will be hosting a dog-centric fundraiser beginning at noon.
Pet parents can have their dogs paint pictures using their paw prints. Those four-legged artists can get a little treat while working on a lick painting.
There will also be a dog wash, raffle items and food to raise additional money to benefit the rescue.
