Mountaineer Area Council welcomes 480 campers

Scouting America’s Mountaineer Area Council kicked off its Summer Resident Camp at Camp Mountaineer in Morgantown earlier this week.

The first cohort of Scouts arrived Sunday, marking the beginning of four weeks of adventure and learning for a total of 483 campers.

Campers will engage in a variety of activities designed to challenge and inspire them. From climbing and swimming to ziplining and canoeing, the camp offers something for every young adventurer. Additionally, campers will have the chance to earn various merit badges, promoting both personal development and practical skills.

“Our Summer Resident Camp is a key part of the Scouting experience,” said Daniel Flowers, camp director at Camp Mountaineer. “We’re excited to welcome so many campers this year and give them unforgettable adventures that build teamwork, leadership and a love for the
outdoors.”

This year’s camp holds special significance as it represents the ongoing evolution of the organization, which will formally adopt the name Scouting America in February 2025. The mission remains steadfast: to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
